Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the STANDOUTS assessment for?

The STANDOUTS assessment is designed for competitive athletes who want to better understand and improve their physical performance.

Our focus is on travel, high school, and collegiate athletes who are serious about developing the strength, power, speed, movement, and other physical qualities that support their sport.

What is the Athlete Readiness Assessment?

The Athlete Readiness Assessment is SPARK's comprehensive performance assessment.

For $300, athletes complete more than 20 tests designed to provide a detailed look at their physical performance, helping identify strengths and areas to improve.

My athlete attended a 5-point Sports Med Combine hosted by SPARK. What happens next?

The 5-point Combine gives an introductory look at your athlete's performance. From here, you have two options.

You can choose the $300 Athlete Readiness Assessment, which includes more than 20 tests for a more comprehensive look at your athlete's physical performance.

Or, if you're ready to start working on areas where your athlete can improve, you can move directly into one of our Sports Med training packages.

The Athlete Readiness Assessment is optional and is not required before starting training.

What's the difference between the 5-point Combine and the Athlete Readiness Assessment?

The 5-point Combine provides an introductory snapshot of an athlete's performance. SPARK can conduct it with teams, groups, and at events to give athletes and parents useful initial data.

The Athlete Readiness Assessment goes much further, using more than 20 tests to provide a more comprehensive picture of the athlete's physical performance.

Does my athlete need to complete the Athlete Readiness Assessment before starting training?

No. The full Athlete Readiness Assessment is not required to purchase a Sports Med training package.

Athletes who want a more comprehensive look at their performance can choose the full assessment, while athletes who are ready to begin training can move directly into one of our Sports Med packages.

Does my athlete need to be injured to work with SPARK?

No. The Sports Med packages are designed for athletes who want to improve their performance, whether or not they are currently dealing with an injury.

The packages combine individualized strength and conditioning with dedicated Sports Med sessions with Dr. Carlos Berio.

The 5-session Sports Med package is $599 and includes:

5 60-minute strength and conditioning sessions

2 30-minute Sports Med sessions with Dr. Carlos Berio

What is included in the 10-session Sports Med package?

The 10-session Sports Med package is $999 and includes:

10 60-minute strength and conditioning sessions

3 30-minute Sports Med sessions with Dr. Carlos Berio

What are the Sports Med sessions?

Sports Med sessions are dedicated 30-minute sessions with Dr. Carlos Berio that are included with each training package.

They give athletes access to Dr. Carlos alongside their strength and conditioning program, allowing the Sports Med and performance sides of SPARK to work together.

Is the training specific to my athlete?

Yes. Training is individualized based on your athlete's needs and goals.

Rather than putting every athlete through the same program, SPARK focuses training on the physical qualities most relevant to the individual athlete and their performance.

What will my athlete work on during training?

Training may focus on strength, power, speed, movement, conditioning, and other physical qualities that support athletic performance.

The specific focus will depend on the individual athlete and where they have the greatest opportunity to improve.

What sports do you work with?

SPARK works with athletes across a variety of sports. Testing and training focus on physical performance qualities that apply across sports while allowing the training itself to be individualized to the athlete.

Is STANDOUTS right for a recreational athlete?

These offerings are built primarily for competitive athletes who are serious about improving their performance.

Our primary focus is on travel, high school, and collegiate athletes who are ready to put in the work to get better.

Where do the assessment and training take place?

The Athlete Readiness Assessment and individual training sessions take place at SPARK Fieldhouse: Physiotherapy & Performance in Alexandria, Virginia.
